Guidelines for gorilla trekking: For any travel, safari, and adventure lover planning to embark on a gorilla trekking journey, it is essential to be well-informed about the rules that govern this incredible experience, no matter where they choose to track these magnificent creatures. Some of the tracking areas include Bwindi Forest National Park in Uganda, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda, Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, and Virunga National Park in Congo.

Here are some essential guidelines to keep in mind while embarking on your gorilla trekking journey.

It is essential to stay clean and wash your hands before embarking on an exciting journey into the world of gorillas.
Maintain a hushed tone as you journey through the wilderness, and stay alert to the vibrant life around you, including the diverse birds, playful primates, majestic mammals, intriguing geckos, and elusive reptiles that call the forest home.
It’s important to respect the park by not leaving any trash behind, so make sure to keep any waste in your bag and take it with you when you leave.
At the break of dawn, you will receive an exciting briefing on the rules and regulations of Gorilla trekking. Following this, you will be divided into groups of eight and embark on an exhilarating journey into the forest alongside a ranger.
As you draw near to the majestic mountain Gorillas, the rangers and guides will share fascinating insights about these incredible creatures, or you might catch the sounds echoing through the forest. However, keep your enthusiasm in check; remember they are friendly primates, yet wild creatures that can shift their behavior at any moment.
Position yourself 7 meters from the majestic mountain Gorillas. As you encounter the gorillas, take a moment to observe their majestic presence, but remember to avoid direct eye contact. The greater the distance, the more at ease they become.
Stay close to the group as it is important to remain united, ensuring you do not pose any threat to the majestic mountain gorillas.
Whisper softly and keep your voices down, as you find yourself in the heart of the jungle, far from the comforts of home. If you need to ask questions, do so quietly.
Refrain from smoking, drinking, or eating while exploring the forest. When something falls, it could heighten the chance of spreading illnesses. When it’s time to enjoy your packed lunch, the rangers will guide you to the perfect spot for a picnic in the forest.
When the Gorilla charges, stay calm and avoid running away, as fleeing can heighten the chances of an attack.

It is important to keep in mind that interacting with mountain gorillas is not permitted, as they are wild animals.
You have the opportunity to spend just one hour with the majestic mountain gorillas as you observe their playful antics, feeding habits, and the tender moments of grooming among them. However, please be aware that if the gorillas appear particularly anxious, the guide may decide to conclude the trek ahead of schedule.
You should maintain a quiet demeanor after the encounter, ensuring your voices are low until you are at least 200 meters away from the Gorillas.
Honor the majestic mountain gorillas
Honor the daily visitor limit to help reduce the chance of spreading diseases.
If you have a contagious disease, trekking the mountain gorillas is off-limits. However, you can immerse yourself in the local community around the park, or you can arrange another visit through the Wildlife Authority, or opt for a refund of your money.
If you feel the urge to cough or sneeze, be sure to turn your head away from the Gorillas and cover your mouth and nose to help keep any germs at bay.
Maintain a distance of 7 meters from the Gorillas to ensure your safety and avoid the risk of transmitting human diseases.
Keep the park pristine by not leaving any rubbish behind, as foreign items can bring unwanted issues.
If you find yourself in need, simply request the ranger to dig a hole with a panga.Ensure it is 30 cm deep and then fill it with soil afterward.
