6 days Mt Elgon Hike Safari

Overview

Hike, Mt Elgon to the highest peak of the Elgon. Some years back Mt Elgon, used to be the highest mountain on the African continent, however due to natural occurrences, the highest peak eroded to form a table. Mountain Elgon hike, requires a minimum of 4 days and for experienced hikers they can hike to the peak in just 3 days.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pick up from Kampala/ transfer to Mbale.

In the morning right after breakfast, you will be picked up from Kampala to transfer to Mt Elgon National Park. The drive will take you 3 to 4 hours arriving in the afternoon. On the way to the park you will visit ssezibwa falls, and stop in Jinja for a lunch and a visit to the source of the Nile. Overnight at

Day 2: Budadiri to Sasa River Camp. 11km 4hrs Walk.

Pick up at 7am, to transfer to Budadiri Gate in Sironko District at around 8:00 am in the morning. Strat the hike, that will take you through Bumasifa Parish once you reach the last Bumasola village, you will have enterered the park. The walk through the par starts will a steep slope of about 2kms taking you to the Mudange cliff also referred to as the wall of death. After walking through the cliff you will walk through the tropical forest meeting black and white colobus monkeys, until your reach Sara River camp that is located at 2900m.

Overnight and dinner at Sasa River Camp.

Day 3: Sasa to Mude Cave- 8 km Walk for 3hrs 3500m Above Sea Level.

Through the bamboo and alpine forest you will walk and get to the rangers camp, you will be registered and then after proceed to Mude cave where you will have lunch. And relax as you prepare for the hike the next day. Overnight at Mude camp.

Day 4: Mude, – Jackson Summit – Wagagi Peak- Mude. 10km 4321m Above Sea level

Start the day with breakfast an then ascent through the pockets of porky vast land for about 9kms upwards. You will reach the Jackson’s summit and pool before you proceed to pass by the rim of the largest caldera in the world. This Caldera measures, over 40km in circumference and 10km in diameter. Watch out for excruciating views of crater lakes, hots springs, gorges and valleys. As you proceed you will start seeing the excellent views of Wagagai peak and then hike to the top. Take pictures at 4,321m above sea levels. Before you start your descent back to Mude cave. Dinner and over night at Mude Cave.

Day 5: Mude Cave to Budadiri gate:

Once you are done with your breakfast, you will embark on your descent back to Budadir cave through Sasa river camp and Mumasola trading centre where your car will be waiting. You will then be driven back to your hotel to relax.

Day 6: Drive from Mt Elgon to Kampala.

In the morning right after, breakfast, you will drive to transfer, back to Kampala, arriving in the afternoon. End of 6 Days Mt Elgon Hike.
